Reason for nomination: I met Michelle 6 years ago when I first started in animal rescue. I often refer to her as “my mentor”, guiding me through the ropes and establishing rescue contacts. I relied on her for ‘hard-to-move’ dogs: the ones considered less than desirable, often left behind in kill shelters. Michelle would post to social media, network, fundraise, arrange transport, whatever means necessary to better their chances of getting out of the shelter safely. She taught me qualities to look for in rescue partners and the importance of a ‘reputable rescue’. Together we have saved countless dogs, many who never had a chance without Michelle. Michelle is an advocate. She strives to educate the public on the importance of spay and neuter. She fosters; volunteers; transports. She takes on more than she should, but never turns her back on an animal in need. Michelle works hard to make a difference in the community. And she does all of this with her heart. She doesn’t ask for recognition or need acknowledgement. She simply shares a passion and love for saving animals. I was just fortunate to gain a friend and forever mentor in the process.
