Name: Carol J. Williams
Name: Angela Hagen
Organization helped: Animal Rescue Alliance, Inc.
Reason for nomination: A group of us in Southwest Georgia had been petitioning Seminole County, unsuccessfully, for over a year to establish an animal shelter. This is a rural area with no animal services. Stray dogs are taken to the only vet and most times ended up euthanized. Angela stepped up and bought a vacant vet clinic, and is having it renovated for our use. We formed Animal Rescue Alliance, Inc., obtained 501(c)(3) status, and enlisted a vet from the neighboring county to spay/neuter our animals. We will serve Seminole and Miller counties, and we pledge to not euthanize any animal simply for space. We hope to open in another 2-3 months, and it would not be possible without Angela's generosity. Not only is this facility going to be state of the art, she also purchased custom made stand alone dog kennels to go behind the main building. Her only stipulations were that we completely handle the running of the business, and that once she got us started, we would become self-sufficient and garner support from the two counties we will serve. This is a dream come true, not only for those of us with a passion for caring for animals, but for the countless dogs and cats that will be saved because of Angela. Even if she doesn't win this honor, she is hands-down the hero in two counties here in Southwest Georgia.
