Submission #5437 | Name: Julie Dykes
Story:I found Indy running down the side of Hwy 41 on my way home from work. I almost made it home, but turned around and went back to see if I could catch her because I was afraid that she might get run over because of traffic. I picked her up at the gas station and she was wearing a collar, so I took her to the Lowndes County Animal Shelter. They put her on a stray hold. I went home and told my parents that I had found the sweetest, most beautiful dog. The next day I went back to the animal shelter and asked them if I could adopt her. They said I could put a $25 hold on her to adopt her if no one came to claim her. No one ever did. Because it was a holiday, they kept her for longer than a week, but I came back every day until they finally gave her to me. She has been our girl ever since. She was heartworm positive and had been used to breed several litters of puppies, so it took about a year to nurse her back to health. She has ground her front teeth down nubs, and the vet believes she ground them down on chain link fencing. I don't believe she was ever in a house before ours (she didn't know how to climb steps or what furniture was). She didn't know how to play or bark for the longest time. But she is a happy, healthy, spoiled rotten girl now, and we just love her to pieces.
